Project 2

Summary

The goal of Project 2 is to determine if altering the activity of vagal neurons in lean and obese mice directly affects hepatic metabolic flux in liver. Using novel optogenetic approaches coupled with nerve cuffs, we will manipulate genetically targeted populations of vagal neurons and determine which vagal neurons and what stimulation parameters optimally improve hepatic functions and whole body glucose homeostasis.

Questions

  1. What are the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism pathways regulated by the vagus nerve in mice?

  2. Is vagal control of flux impaired during obesity in mice?

Methods

Optical nerve cuff attached to the left vagus nerve.
